Lok Sin Tong Leung Kau Kui Primary School (Branch) is dedicated to fostering a strong sense of community and holistic well-being among its students and their families. To support this mission, the school runs vital monthly elderly wellness programs designed for their students’ grandparents. The activities, which include art therapy, mindfulness sessions, simple stretching, and joint grandparent-grandchild activities, aim to improve the emotional and physical health of the participants.


The school partnered with Upmood with a dual objective: to objectively measure the impact and effectiveness of these emotional interventions, and to provide participants (grandparents) and their families with concrete, data-driven feedback on their emotional state changes throughout the program.


Tracking the Emotional Impact of Shared Activities

The project involved over 80 participants (grandparents and grandchildren) attending the monthly sessions. During the program, Upmood devices were utilized to record participants' emotional states continuously.


The process focused on benchmarking emotional changes before, during, and after specific activities. Upmood devices tracked emotion and stress levels during low-impact activities like art and stretching, as well as during high-interaction, joint activities between the two generations. This data provided real-time insights into which activities were most successful in reducing stress and increasing positive emotions, such as Enjoyment and Calmness.


This rigorous data collection provided the school with empirical evidence regarding the emotional efficacy of their program curriculum.

The collaboration with Lok Sin Tong Leung Kau Kui Primary School (Branch) successfully validated the emotional benefits of intergenerational wellness programs.
