The Asia Society Hong Kong Center is a leading platform for promoting an understanding of Asia and global issues, frequently hosting events that foster dialogue and well-being. Happiness Factory specializes in crafting unique experiences that promote mental and emotional health. Together, they collaborated to host "Sleep Happy," a one-day event designed to introduce executives to breathwork and yoga interventions for improving sleep quality. This partnership with Upmood aimed to investigate how objective emotion monitoring could offer insights into participants' real-time emotional states during these practices, thereby validating their immediate impact on well-being.
The "Sleep Happy" workshop aimed to address prevalent sleep-related issues by demonstrating the power of breathwork and yoga interventions. Expert instructors Rosalie e’Silva, Aigul Safiullina, and Joyce Au-Yeung guided participants through sound healing and breathwork techniques focused on achieving better sleep quality. In addition, a fireside chat with various sleep experts offered scientific explanations and technological insights into sleep-related issues. Emotion monitoring was crucial for this event to objectively assess how these interventions influenced participants' emotional and physiological states, particularly their stress levels and overall mood, thereby providing tangible data to support the scientific discussions.
Program Structure and Real-time Monitoring
The "Sleep Happy" event was a comprehensive one-day workshop for executives. Participants engaged in various sessions, including guided breathwork, yoga, and sound healing led by expert instructors. Throughout the group activities, Upmood Mass was strategically utilized to continuously monitor the emotional states of the participants in real-time. This involved collecting physiological data, such as Heart Rate Variability (HRV), which Upmood's technology then translated into objective insights on mood, stress levels, and emotional valence. The real-time group data allowed organizers and instructors to observe general emotional shifts and responses as participants transitioned through different calming exercises and educational segments, providing an immediate, objective layer of feedback on the interventions' impact.

Why Upmood?
Upmood’s real-time group emotion monitoring capabilities through Upmood Mass were indispensable for the "Sleep Happy" event. Given the focus on understanding the immediate effects of breathwork and yoga on emotional well-being, Upmood's technology offered an objective way to track shifts in mood, stress, and valence across the participant group. Unlike subjective self-reporting, Upmood provided continuous, non-intrusive data, enabling organizers to observe the collective emotional journey as individuals engaged in calming activities. This objective data was crucial for supporting the scientific discussions on sleep and stress management, demonstrating the tangible impact of the wellness interventions presented during the workshop.

Key Outcomes and Findings
The integration of Upmood's emotion monitoring technology in the "Sleep Happy" event offered valuable insights into the immediate impact of breathwork and yoga interventions on participants' emotional states:
😌Objective Validation of Calming Effects: Upmood data provided objective evidence of collective reductions in stress levels and increases in calmness/positive valence as participants engaged in breathwork, yoga, and sound healing sessions.
🪷Enhanced Understanding of Intervention Efficacy: The real-time emotional monitoring helped illustrate the direct physiological and emotional responses to specific techniques, providing a data-backed understanding of how these interventions promote relaxation conducive to better sleep.
🧘🏻Demonstrated Value of Holistic Wellness: The project successfully showcased how incorporating objective emotional data can highlight the holistic benefits of wellness practices, moving beyond just anecdotal feedback.
Conclusion
The collaboration between Sleep Happy (Happiness Factory and Asia Society) and Upmood successfully demonstrated the profound impact of breathwork and yoga interventions on emotional well-being, as objectively validated by Upmood's emotion monitoring technology. By providing real-time insights into participants' emotional shifts, Upmood helped showcase the efficacy of these wellness practices in fostering calmness and reducing stress, essential factors for improved sleep quality. This project highlights Upmood's potential to provide deep, measurable insights into the effectiveness of wellness programs and educational initiatives, enabling organizations to deliver more impactful and data-driven experiences for their audiences.
