How it works

Developed by experts,
trusted by professionals

Our body is regulated by the autonomic nervous system (ANS). In a balanced nervous system, the heart is constantly being told to beat faster by the sympathetic nervous system and slower by the parasympathetic nervous system, resulting in Heart Rate Variability (HRV).

Here's where Upmood comes in. Using our PPG optical sensor, we can measure your HRV, process it through our Upmood algorithm, and map out arousal (intensity level) and valence (positivity/negativity) to detect emotion.

Emotion results are calculated every 1.5 to 3 minutes and are then shown on our Upmood Emotion Dashboard to give clients information about emotional patterns over time. With these insights, users can use interventions and change their environment to impact their well-being.

Our emotion algorithm is backed by rigorous, multi-year research by experts in Heart Rate Variability, Psychology and Neuroscience.

Emotions

Can be calculated using continuous valence and arousal at 1.5 to 3 minute intervals.

Participants

Reported the same positive emotion as the Upmood algorithm result when asked how they felt.

We can generate relevant emotions by mapping
negative to positive valence and low to high arousal
